About this course

Energy Exemplar is pleased to announce the General Availability of the new EIC Zonal Database for PLEXOS. This release was updated using the latest information available including but not limited to:

  • Long Term Capacity Expansion –Added all necessary data and executed a PLEXOS exclusive long-term expansion plan until Year 2039. This enhancement also added Batteries as a New Resource option in PLEXOS.
  • Resource Update –Applied as an update to PLEXOS and includes EIA Plant and Gen Codes which enabling tracing with the last update.
  • Start Costs –Added as a separate cost to PLEXOS and removed from VO&M as it was implemented in the previous releases. Implemented as a scenario in PLEXOS to allow modeling flexibility.
  • Custom Columns –Added to PLEXOS and contain EIA Plant and Gen Code. These allow one-to-one mapping to enable data transparency.
  • Ownership –Added to PLEXOS for company-level evaluations to be done directly from the output.
  • Fuel Prices –Used a price forecast from Natural Gas Intelligence (NGI) instead of blending multiple sources resulting in a longer, more granular, and more consistent forecast.
  • Emission Rates & Pricing –Model prices directly on emission objects for each emission price. This reduces the number of records in the model and makes it easier to evaluate carbon markets.
  • Fuel Structure –Simplified structure of fuel modelling in PLEXOS to reduce the number of records in the model and make it easier to perform fuel-level analysis.
  • Financial Base Year –Updated the base year for all financial data so that is expressed in 2020 dollars (was 2012).
  • Inflation Rates –Added to PLEXOS as a scenario enabling the model to report in either real or nominal dollars.
  • Geocodes – Energy Exemplar has added Latitude and Longitude data for every generator in the East Interconnect.
  • Power Stations – Updated aggregation of two or more generators modeled as a multi-unit generator to increase performance run times.
  • Renewable Power Options – Renewable Portfolio Standard goals can be modeled endogenously in PLEXOS, or exogenously using a long-term renewable build out to improve performance times.
